How many of you grew up around someone who was trangendered or tranual? I knew no one and was somewhat?

surprised (but very diplomatic) when I first met a male to female. Do you believe that's our (Americans) biggest "ual" taboo because I sure didn't hear about it at all growing up. I unwittingly went to a church that was for lgbt and definitely got an education.
