How do I go about retrieving my luggage from a multi-stop flight?

I will be flying from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Minneapolis, MN to Fargo, ND. My stop in MN is about an hour before I board the next plane to get to ND. It's the same airline, Northwest. I'm going to be flying alone, which I've never done before, and all the times I have flown it has been non-stop flights. I am only bringing one carry-on due to heightened secuirty measures, and I'm just checking in one suitcase since I'll be up there for a week. Will they transfer my luggage to the next flight for me, to meet me in ND, or do I have to find my luggage in MN and re-check it? Thanks!!
