I found what "appears" to be "gold" on a rock on the beach, is it possible at all to find gold on beach?

There is the possibility of finding gold on a beach, what the odds are I could not say. Finding gold flakes on the strata you describe is probably not likely, the piece you describe sounds to be sedimentary rather than mineral where gold would be more likely to be found. Having said that, gold does get washed down stream in time or could have been deposited by an ancient volcanic or earthen upheaval of some kind. Congratulations on an interesting find. One never quite knows what they will find on a beach, congratulations on the fossil find too. If you still have the strata layer you might consider taking it to the ayers office or possibly a jeweler, they would be able to confirm your question one way or the other. The slab you describe could be a piece of jade, don't get your hopes up the jade in this country for the most part is pretty much just another rock and about as valuable.
